The reason for the Journal is not only to have a place to write notes, it is also that long story short encourages a rhythm of reading the Word in between the group sessions. This then sets the person up for bringing questions to the next session and to preparing themselves for the next viewing.
The NIV Bible means that for people who haven't handled a Bible before, the facilitator can say, 'On page 214 …' rather than 'In Lamentations 6' which is like saying, 'In the haystack, you'll find a needle.'
